My latest series, Fragments, began by finding inspiration in reading the fragmented poetry of the Ancient Greek poet Sappho.  Then for fun, I took her poetry and utilizing the N+7 technique from Oulipo, a French literary group, I reworked Sappho’s text by substituting each of the poem's nouns with the noun appearing seven nouns away in the dictionary, I then fragment it further by reorganizing the text. This new text then informs and inspires each new painting in this series as I play with the idea of fragmenting my iconography and style in a similar N+7 process, for example, my telephone poles become exploding bars and my houses melt back into the imploding landscapes.
